Gurudev Siddha Peeth

Gurudev Siddha Peeth
Ganeshpuri, India

A sign at the entrance of Gurudev Siddha Peeth tells visitors, "This is an ashram, a place where shrama, fatigue, is destroyed. The ashram is for those who are interested in spirituality, in knowing the divine Self that dwells within." Gurudev Siddha Peeth, in the Tansa River Valley of Maharashtra state in India, was founded by Swami Muktananda in 1956, when his Guru, Bhagawan Nityananda, gave him three tiny rooms on a small plot of land.

The ashram was registered as a public trust in 1962. As Swami Muktananda once predicted, Gurudev Siddha Peeth has grown to become a spiritual university, a true "school of the Guru" (gurukula), where dedicated Siddha Yoga students from all over the world can experience monastic life, chanting, meditating, and studying the scriptures of India. Swami Muktananda's samadhi shrine, the place where he is buried, is also located in the ashram, and is one of the great places of pilgrimage in the area.

Pilgrims from all over the world are welcome to visit the samadhi shrine, and are advised to find their accommodations in Mumbai (Bombay), as the residential part of the ashram is not open to the public. For more details on visiting the samadhi shrine, and the visiting hours, please contact the Information Center at Shree Muktananda Ashram: (914) 434-2000, Ext. 2202.

For those Siddha Yoga students who would like to stay in Gurudev Siddha Peeth, there is an application procedure. While the minimum stay at the ashram is one month, an extended stay of many months up to a year is possible. People in countries other than the USA and Canada can obtain an application from their Siddha Yoga meditation Country Registration Coordinator. To find out who your Country Registration Coordinator is, contact your local Siddha Yoga Meditation Center. People in the USA or Canada can call the Gurukula Application Office to request an application.
